• Be a child, stepchild, foster child or grandchild of a USBA member in good standing both at the time of application and on scholarship payment date. If selected, proof of support must be provided by sending a copy of a USBA member’s income tax statement for the previous year. For a grandchild, a written statement from the child’s parent is required. For foster child, member must also send a copy of court order placing child in member’s home.
• Be a graduating high school senior.
• Display good character and citizenship.
• Rank in top 20% of high school class. Extra-curricular activities will be a consideration.
• Provide a high school transcript through the first semester of senior year if possible.
• Provide a recommendation by high school principal or guidance counselor.
• Attach Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) score reports, if not already listed in your official school transcript.
• Provide a personally prepared, typed essay outlining career objectives, maximum of 250 words.
• Also provide a typed self-description, maximum 250 words. (See application for details.)
• Be accepted as a full-time student by a college or university in the United States or District of Columbia and provide a copy of acceptance notification. The grant will be paid in U.S. dollars.

The winner of the 2024 Dietrich Memorial Scholarship is Josephine Carlson.

Josephine is from Bloomington, Minnesota, and plans to study Statistics at the University of Iowa in the fall. Her grandfather has been a USBA Member for 48 years.

The winner of the 2023 Dietrich Memorial Scholarship is Jonathan Bowen.

Jonathan is from San Marcos, CA and plans to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to study Forest and Fire Science. His father has been a USBA Member for 27 years.

There were three Dietrich Memorial Scholarship award winners for 2022: Lia Gosselin, Lillian Lautenschlager and Natalie Neal.

Lia is from South Bend, IN and plans to study Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. Her grandmother has been a USBA Member for 21 years.

Lillian is from Lincoln, NE and plans to attend the University of Arizona. Her grandfather has been with USBA for 24 years.

Natalie is from Osage, IA and plans to pursue an undergrad degree in Education at the University of Northern Iowa, followed by a graduate degree in Library Sciences. Her father has been a USBA Member for 14 years.

Olivia is from Pipestone, MN and plans to study Business Marketing at Grand Canyon University. Her mother has been with USBA for 25 years.

Delaney is from Mokane, MO and plans to study Political Science at Columbia College. Her father has been a USBA Member for 30 years.

There were two Dietrich Memorial Scholarship award winners for 2020: Paul Ringenbach and Sloane Lawson.

Paul is from Phoenixville, PA and plans to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. His grandfather, Col Paul Ringenbach, USAF, Retired, has been a USBA Member for 40 years.

Sloane is from Clever, MO and plans to study Kinesiology at John Brown University. Her grandfather, MSG Carl Chrisner, USA, Retired, has been a USBA Member for more than 45 years.

There were two Dietrich Memorial Scholarship award winners for 2019: Sharlelie Marquis and Faith Wahl.

Sharlelie is from Cicero, NY and plans to study pre-law at Marymount University in fall 2019. Some of her hobbies include figure skating, playing volleyball and reading. Her father, Arthur Marquis is an Army veteran and has been a member of USBA for nearly 20 years.

Faith is from Bismarck, ND and will be entering the nursing program at the University of North Dakota. She enjoys volleyball, basketball, and volunteering at her church. Faith’s step-father is Lieutenant Colonel Gregory McDonald of the Air National Guard.

There were two Dietrich Memorial Scholarship award winners for 2018: Barilynn Shelby and Makenna Steger.

Barilynn is from Johnston City, IL and will attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL and plans to study psychology. Her grandfather, William E. Hermetz is an Air Force veteran. She is sponsored by her grandmother Jacqueline Hermetz, who has been a member of USBA for 15 years.

Makenna is from Sedalia, MO and plans to attend the University of Kansas and study biology. Makenna is sponsored by USBA member Michelle Steger and Air Force Sergeant Christopher Steger. Michelle has been a USBA member for 18 years.

The award winner of the 2017 Dietrich Memorial Scholarship is Raylani Reis.

Raylani Reis from Miranda, CA. She plans to attend Cornell University, majoring in environmental resource engineering/environmental science. Raylani is the daughter of Aletta Sauer, a retired lieutenant in the U. S. Navy. Aletta has been a member of USBA since 1991.
