About USBA: Nonprofit Military Life Insurance

USBA is proud to serve the families who serve our Nation

President’s Letter

USBA President Connie R. Markovich

Since its founding in 1959, USBA’s mission has been to serve the life insurance needs of America’s active duty and retired service men and women and their families. Over the years, our membership has expanded to include Federal employees, Reservists, National Guard, military academy officer candidates, honorably discharged Veterans and others. Benefit policies have also expanded, including TRICARE Supplement options.

For more than six decades USBA has remained committed to excellence in all things, notably:

  • compassionate & timely handling of claims,
  • live-person phone staff, consistently lauded for personalized care over the lifetime of your membership,
  • a 30-year relationship with New York Life Insurance Company, whose own focus on excellence and viability aligns well with ours.

When the late Maj Gen Bill Dietrich, USAF (Ret), hired me in ’82, it was evident this nonprofit Association was a notch above other companies – by the high regard in which it held its members and its mission, the high service standards it set – and met. These are our guiding principles still today.

I’m proud of our dedicated staff and honored to lead this Association forward.

Sincerely,
Connie Markovich’s signature

Our History

Uniformed Services Benefit Association (USBA) was founded in 1959 to meet the needs of Active Duty military personnel, who at that time had difficulty finding adequate life insurance coverage that would cover combat-related deaths. USBA was one of the first companies to do away with the “war clause” in all of its coverages.

Our Mission

USBA is a nonprofit association that provides group life insurance, health insurance supplements, and other products and services to military personnel, Federal employees, National Guard and Reserve members, Veterans and their families with the highest ethical standards of conduct and service.

Our Leadership

USBA’s President and CEO is
Mrs. Connie R. Markovich. Markovich has served USBA’s membership for over 40 years, including in senior leadership positions for many years. Markovich has a master’s degree in management from Baker University and is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). She has earned various certifications from the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) and until recently was a licensed life and health insurance agent in Kansas.

Our Board of Directors

USBA is governed by a Board of Directors elected annually by the membership. Board members typically serve a three-year term. Our current board:
